Wheels on the Bus – A Nice Ride

At 99 cents, Wheels on the Bus is an iPhone app that represents the kind of affordable enrichment tool that we think is pretty sticky.

Created by three parent friends and based on the well-known nursery rhyme, Wheels on the Bus is an application for the iPhone and iPod touch that is an interactive storybook for the pre-K set. It follows a variation of the classic song “Wheels on the Bus” and offers a great deal of sounds and animations to keep children entertained. Each screen shows a different part of the song, and children can touch the arrows on the bottom right and left of the screen to move forward or backward in the song. They can touch the screen to interact with various elements on the screen.

The app offers the song in 5 different languages (English, French, Spanish, Italian, and German), and gives the option to hear the song with different instruments playing the melody, from kazoo to violin. There’s also an option for kids to record their own voice singing the lyrics for each slide.

At 99 cents, the Wheels on the Bus application represents the kind of affordable enrichment tool that Startl would like to foster, allowing children from all kinds of backgrounds to engage in interactive, creative learning from pre-K through adulthood.
