Venture Capital in Education Summit 2011 Seeks Ten Revolutionary Early Stage Education Technology Companies for “Education Innovators Showcase”

Early-Stage Companies Are Encouraged to Apply for this Rare Opportunity to Present their Products to Venture Capitalists and Influencers in the Education Industry.

The Venture Capital in Education Summit 2011, to be held at the IAC Building in New York City on June 14 and 15, announced today its call for proposals to participate in its “Education Innovators Showcase.” The Showcase will provide a select group of early-stage companies, poised to make their mark in the education sector, the rare opportunity to present their products to the Summit attendees, which will include venture capitalists, strategic investors and influential leaders in the education industry.

“Whether you are a new entrepreneur or someone getting ready to launch a new product, the Venture Capital in Education Summit is the place to be,” said Hilary DeCesare, CEO and Founder of Everloop, a social media company offering the first unified, online community platform for tweens (young people between the ages of 8 and 13) and a participant in the “Education Innovators Showcase” at the Venture Capital in Education Summit 2010. “Not only does the Summit offer opportunities to connect with investors, but the organizers truly take you under their wing and continue to connect you to the right people and events in the education industry long after the event is over.”

To qualify for the Showcase, companies must be pre-Series A enterprises that have demonstrated market traction and are deploying innovative technology-enabled solutions for enhancing learning or improving the operational performance of education institutions. The companies will be selected through an application process that will be judged by representatives from the Summit’s host organizations, Education Growth Advisors, a newly launched revenue strategy consultancy exclusively serving the education sector, and Startl, a not-for-profit dedicated to accelerating education technology startups. Companies that meet the outlined criteria and are interested in applying for the Education Innovators Showcase should submit an application by May 15, 2011.

Previous Venture Capital in Education Summits have successfully accelerated education innovation and investment by connecting capital and companies around transformative trends and emerging market opportunities.

“Notehall developed dozens of contacts at last year’s Summit that have led to invaluable partnerships and funding offers. More importantly, being selected for the Showcase Event gives you credibility within the education industry, which is a difficult industry to make a name for yourself in. Most of your future potential acquirers will be there, and it’s never too early to get them interested and begin a conversation,” said Sean Conway, Co-Founder and CEO of, an online marketplace for college students to buy and sell class materials and a participant in the “Education Innovators Showcase” in 2010.

The 2011 Summit will once again bring together venture capitalists, angel investors, venture philanthropists and private equity investors with entrepreneurs, executives, foundations and other innovators in the K-20 education markets in an intimate setting. Under the banner of the 2011 theme – Education Taking Flight – panelists and attendees will explore the arc of an entrepreneurial venture, and the different experiences that education technology companies encounter as they travel from lift off to landing. In addition to Investor Showcase and the session panels, the Summit will feature a Spotlight Panel on the topic of Gaming and Game-Based Learning and a keynote conversation between John Heilemann, New York Magazine columnist and New York Times best-selling author, and Fred Wilson, Partner at Union Square Ventures.

Sponsors of the Venture Capital in Education Summit 2011 include Houghton Mifflin Harcourt and The Apollo Group. The event is invitation only, and space is limited.
